Don’t you worry

Don’t you worry

One of my darkest days was back when I lived in Harlem.

My long-term relationship was ending, and was holed up alone in my apartment listening to the Stevie Wonder anthology over and over.

By that point, I’d read a lot of self-help books, and even had a regular yoga and meditation practice.

But nothing was able to penetrate my spirit like Stevie singing Don’t you worry ‘bout a thing.

Although I love the silence, the right song can invoke its own spiritual experience.

Which songs get you through the messy times?

Maybe create a playlist called “Life is good,” for those days when you forget just how amazing you are.

Underneath the billboard. I saw this in my neighborhood the other day. Reminded me of how my teacher would sometimes refer to life as a “beautiful mess.” If you’re currently navigating the messiness, don’t forget to look for some of the beauty. It’s there if you’re intentional about seeing it.
