Help yourself

Help yourself

As two friends passed a homeless person sleeping underneath a bridge, one friend asked the other:

“If you knew that in your next lifetime, you would have to trade places with that homeless person, would you live your life any differently?”

His friend nodded and immediately walked over to give the homeless person some money.

As long as we can see ourself in another, we don’t have to try to be generous, compassionate, or loving.

It’s in our nature to be that way.

It’s not in our nature to see people who are destitute or suffering and not feel anything.

So if you feel something, it’s because you see yourself in them,

And by helping them in any way you can, you also help yourself.

Give What You Want: pg 97 of Travel Light

In Travel Light, I write about giving others what you want to receive. If you want to create the conditions for receiving more love, you must first be loving. If you want to experience generosity, you must first be generous. And so on. Whatever you want to experience, you go first.
