If you don’t want to be harmed…

If you don’t want to be harmed…

“The Buddhist philosophy says: if you don't want to be harmed, then stop wanting anyone to be harmed—even the person that harmed you.”  — Hector Marcel

When this week’s podcast guest, Hector Marcel, was in his early 20’s, he found himself in quite the bind:

He had a boss who would constantly yell at him for not taking financial advantage of their clients.

Although that dynamic was toxic, Hector couldn’t just quit.

Not only did he need the money, but he was working in America illegally without a green card.

Around that time, Hector was introduced to a Buddhist monk who gave a lecture called, “How to Get Rid of Your Yelling Boss.”

Hector couldn’t believe his luck.

But the monk began the lecture by pointing out that there was nothing in your yelling boss that’s responsible for the hate and anger you feel within…

(I’ll let Hector share the rest of the monk’s fascinating points in the episode.)

But that lecture inspired Hector to become a daily meditator, then a teacher, and eventually the head teacher at Three Jewels Buddhist Center in New York.

Since then, Hector has taught thousands of aspiring meditators, he trains teachers, and he coaches leaders on navigating the complex phases of personal awakening and transformation.

If you’ve identified someone in your life as the source of your anger, or sadness, or frustration, then this episode is for you.

It’ll provide you with many practical tools for navigating future exchanges with them, as well as a quick way to hone in on the underlying karmic lessons.
