Looking forward

Looking forward

I once heard Elizabeth Gilbert admit that she hasn’t read her best-selling book, Eat Pray Love, since it came out.

Honestly, I was relieved to hear that—because I haven’t read any of my books since they came out either.

You’ve probably heard the saying, “writing is rewriting.”

By the time your book gets published, you’ve read and reread it so many times that you can’t even bear to look at it again.

But that’s also how you know you truly gave something your all.

You’re kinda over it—and that’s okay.

Because knowing you poured your heart and soul into something is what allows you to look forward, not back.

Cemeteries are where the past is laid to rest. And when you pour your heart and soul into something, it’s like you give it a proper burial. If you don’t give it your all, because life got busy or whatever the reason (I’ve certainly been there), it becomes like this unsolved mystery that can linger on for years. Whatever happened to…?

Although it takes a significant amount of effort and energy to bring the idea to fruition, it actually clears up mental and emotional space for you to move on once it’s finally done. And so if you’re still thinking about the mystery of it all, and the possibilities, it means that there’s more to explore with that idea.
