My Octopus Teacher director on the podcast
Like so many people in 2020, I became obsessed with My Octopus Teacher. I watched it multiple times, completely fascinated by how a film about a man following an octopus around for a year could be so moving, so unforgettable.
At the time, I didn’t have a podcast. But I remember thinking: If I ever start one, I’d love to talk to the people behind that film.
Cut to five years later, and here we are. This week, I had the privilege of speaking with Pippa Ehrlich, the co-director of My Octopus Teacher, all the way from South Africa.

Her story is just as inspiring as the documentary itself. Pippa had a dream job on paper—working as a marine journalist, traveling the world—but something more profound was calling.
When filmmaker Craig Foster invited her to collaborate on My Octopus Teacher, there was no budget, script, or clear plan—just raw footage and an unshakable feeling that this was something worth saying yes to.
Pippa’s journey proves that sometimes, the best decisions make no logical sense. That the right path often doesn’t come with guarantees. And that when life invites you to step into something bigger, trusting the unknown is the most incredible leap you can take.

I can’t wait for you to check out this conversation. If you’ve ever felt the pull toward something uncertain, something bigger than your current path, Pippa’s story will remind you why saying yes before you’re ready can lead to beautiful results.
To your growth,
