Stop trying to meditate

Stop trying to meditate

If someone instructs you to:

  • Sit with a straight back and close your eyes

  • Focus on your breath

  • Witness your thoughts like clouds in the sky

  • Notice the sensations in your body

What are you about to do?

Now imagine someone says:

  • Just relax against the headboard in your bed

  • Let your mind do whatever it’s doing

  • If you doze off, cool

  • Position your body however feels most comfortable

What does that mean you’re about to do?

Believe it or not—it’s the same thing.

The difference is in the approach.

One version feels like torture.

The other feels like relief.

One keeps you finding excuses not to do it.

The other keeps you coming back for more.

In one, time crawls. In the other, it flies.

Today’s episode of The Spiritual Perspective is about what it really takes to succeed in meditation.

Most people are working way too hard.

And if you’ve ever described your mind as a “monkey mind,” chances are… you’re one of them.

This episode will help you reframe the experience, and give you permission to do less, do least, and ultimately—do nothing.

Which, ironically, is exactly what allows meditation to start working for you—instead of feeling like more work for you to do.

Here’s what we’ll explore:

  • Why your mind feels even busier when you try meditate

  • What’s making your practice feel frustrating or pointless

  • How common advice from well-meaning teachers might be setting you up for failure

  • What to do when meditation feels like one more thing to get right

  • The style of meditation I highly recommend if you want formal training
