The goosebumps standard

The goosebumps standard

“Never do music for money or fame,” music producer Quincy Jones once advised.

“If you do what gives you goosebumps, there’s no doubt that someone else on this planet will feel the same about your art.”

Mr. Jones said something else about the creative process that stuck.

He said, when you are overly concerned about the money, “God walks out of the room.”

Since we obviously want to keep God in the room while we’re creating, let’s adopt a new standard—the goosebumps standard.

Which means, consider the goosebumps you get from the work more than you consider the pay.
